What is hyfrecation electrocautery of genital warts?

This leaflet tells you about having hyfrecation (electrocautery) of genital warts.

You have been sent the link to this leaflet because either:

• The doctor who has seen you in the axess genital dermatology clinic has advised you that hyfrecation is a treatment option for you
• or, you have been referred to the axess genital dermatology clinic, where you may be offered hyfrecation if the doctor who sees you in that clinic thinks this would be helpful for you. Hyfrecation may not be performed at your first appointment in the dermatology clinic so you will have time to discuss this with the doctor there.

The leaflet tells you about the benefits and risks of hyfrecation, how we do hyfrecation, and how to look after yourself after hyfrecation.
